Our client is looking for an individual to join their agile and fast-growing team as a test manager.
The core team started back in the late 1990’s, producing data-driven websites and transactional portals for financial systems and employee benefit companies. They’ve had many UK firsts such as online custom portfolio valuations, interpreting data across different systems, multiple investment platforms, automated financial calculators and configurable workplace tools.
Within the past few years they have developed a multi-tenanted web platform providing benefit communication and HR functions for small to medium size businesses. The platform is provided to enterprise clients, mostly in the financial services sector, who in turn provide tenant-based portals to their own corporate clients, where employees interact with aspects of benefits and HR.
This product has been developed entirely and is managed in house by a small team over the last five years. They maintain production environment for all clients, all at the same version number and code base. Maintenance of a single software version for all clients is essential.
As a test manager you will be responsible for testing and quality assurance function for three main strands:
• Testing new features - typically significant development of new functions and modules based on business requirements gathered from clients
• Change requests - additions or tweaks to existing features and functions
• Bug fixes - testing and verifying an existing fault, working with the dev team to see the fix through to QA and testing prior to release
The testing function is required across the full development lifecycle from internal development and pre-stage environment; stage and UAT; pre-release QA environment for each of our client installations through to final checks on production environments.
Our client currently run a (roughly) monthly release cycle which includes new features, change requests and bug fixes, but as the scale of the client base and scope of the product has grown significantly over the last couple of years there is a need to bring structure to the testing and QA function.
They are also embarking on a ground up rebuild of the platform to align software with best practices and latest development principles which is likely to take at least 9 months for most of the development team. They aim to build automated testing into the product and develop automated tests for future regression testing. Experience of automated testing would be an advantage.
With little experience of formal testing within the company, the successful candidate would need to manage the whole function and bring the most appropriate methods to the business. Our client is an ISO 27001 certified company so all processes, methods, tests, QA and deployment tests should be documented accordingly.
